Keith Thompson

Joined Phoenix Shanti Group as its Executive Director/CEO in January of 2002. Keith is a founding and current member of both the Phoenix Ryan White Title I Council and the HIV Prevention Planning Group of Arizona. A State Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor, Keith also has years of experience in behavioral health service delivery and administration as well as HIV prevention. Himself HIV+ since 1985, Keith resides in Phoenix with his partner of 20 years.

Hello and welcome to our web site! I relocated to the "Valley of the Sun" from Montana many years ago. I've been involved in the HIV/AIDS prevention and education arena since. I worked for Maricopa County a little over five years before joining the Phoenix Shanti Group in 2002.

I started with Phoenix Shanti Group in February of 2010. It's with a sense of gratitude and appreciation that I approach my position here.   I recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame's Intensive Professional Development Program in Nonprofit Leadership & Management.  I'm also an alum of the Amex Leadership Academy @ ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Innovation.  Additionally, I hold a National Certification as a Psychiatric Technician.


Lindsay Crum (MSC, LPC)

Hello! My name is Lindsay Crum and I joined the Phoenix Shanti Group as of December 2013 as a Behavioral Health Technician. I recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with my M.S. in Counseling/Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor. I interned with the PSG and enjoyed the experience so much I wanted to come back to assist individuals living with HIV/AIDs and chemical dependency. I have a passion for the recovery process and assisting clients with behavioral health issues.

Anne Crozier (MA, LPC)
Behavioral Health Therapist

Hello! I joined the Shanti team as a Behavioral Health Therapist in July 2015. I’m a graduate of Northern Arizona University’s MA in Counseling program and have previous experience working in inpatient and home-based settings.

It’s with heartfelt joy and gratitude that I call Shanti home and share in the person-centered, collaborative treatment environment that our team fosters.


Josue Bustos (MSW, LCSW)
Behavioral Health Therapist

My name is Josué, I have started my professional journey with PSG as of February 2019 as a Behavioral Health Therapist. I have my bachelor’s (2014) and Master of Social Work (2015) from ASU and am licensed through the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. I am an alumnus of Phoenix Shanti and have over 9 years of clean/sober time. I have been so grateful with all the opportunities that have been presented to me on my journey of self-discovery and growth. Matthew Lopez (BHT)
Director of Vocational Rehabilitation

Matt Lopez has been employed with Phoenix Shanti since 2004 and heads up Shanti’s Vocational Rehabilitation program. Matt is also the General Manager of Shanti’s 2nd Chances thrift store located in central Phoenix. Matt participates in all forms of Phoenix Shanti fundraising and community networking.



Sam Van Leeuwen
Transitional Housing Coordinator

Sam Van Leeuwen joined the Phoenix Shanti Group in June 2019. He has worked the past 25 years in HIV prevention. He has held positions at the Topeka AIDS Project, AIDS Project Arizona, the Arizona Department of Health Services' HIV/AIDS program, and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in Atlanta. Van Leeuwen says that experience helped prepare him for his new position at Shanti, which he calls “the most challenging job I've ever had."


Sherrie Benecke

I came to the Phoenix Shanti Group in April 2012, having HIV and being an addict. I had no hope for my future. I went through the program at PSG. With all their love and faith in me, I was able to get my life back in order again. Now, I am so blessed to be able to work for Phoenix Shanti Group as an Operations Assistant. This is forever my home. God Bless them all.

I am Shanti Brother Alumni night as well Lead Truck Drive at Shanti Second Chance Store. I thought the best way to give back, and to inspire others in the program is to be part of their team. The Phoenix Shanti Group has given me my life back. If it wasn’t for this program I wouldn’t be where I am at today and be the best son that a mother can ever have.

Hello! My name is Alex and I have been with Shanti since December 2016. I was born and raised in Arizona. I went to South Mountain Community College and studied business management and psychology. I work in the Vocational Rehabilitation program as the store manager at Shanti Second Chances. I enjoy helping people rebuild their lives and become more successful through Vocational Rehabilitation.
